Enabling connected commerce across the value chain

Quick overview

ABOUT COLLABORATION

As digital commerce ecosystems continue to evolve, SharedChain was envisioned as a unified marketplace connecting wholesalers, retailers, and local stores within a single collaborative platform. Saguna Consulting partnered with the client to design and develop a scalable, multi-role e-commerce infrastructure, transforming supply chain interactions into a structured, efficient digital ecosystem built for long-term growth.

The impact

Setting the context

SharedChain was envisioned as a collaborative digital marketplace: a centralized ecosystem where wholesalers, retailers, and local stores could operate within a unified platform.

They approached Saguna Consulting with a clear ambition: to create a scalable e-commerce platform similar in structure to Amazon, but designed specifically to improve cost efficiency, pricing transparency, and supply chain collaboration. This need aligns with broader industry trends. According to Gartner, by 2025 more than 60% of global supply chains will have invested significantly in digital marketplaces and ecosystem models to drive efficiency and responsiveness.¹ Such platforms are becoming essential for businesses to remain competitive.

Why this mattered

Before SharedChain, businesses operated across systems and informal coordination channels. Communication gaps, inefficient workflows, and limited visibility into pricing and distribution drove up operational costs and slowed responsiveness. Industry research suggests that poor supply chain visibility alone can increase operating costs by 20–30% and reduce profit margins significantly. Without a connected marketplace, wholesalers struggled with reach, retailers faced inconsistent supply, and local stores lacked streamlined procurement options. SharedChain’s unified platform promised to reduce friction across these interactions: a clear competitive advantage for distributed commerce networks.

The constraint

The core challenge was complexity. The platform needed to support multiple user roles: wholesalers, retailers, and local stores, each with distinct workflows and permissions. It also had to integrate supply chain processes such as direct-to-consumer (DTC) and large-product distribution center (LPDC) models, while remaining intuitive and user-friendly.

Scalability was equally critical. A 2023 survey found that scalable architecture and performance optimization were among the top three cited success factors for digital commerce platforms that achieve adoption beyond early MVP stages. Balancing sophistication with usability required careful architectural decisions.

Our approach

Saguna Consulting designed and developed a multi-role e-commerce architecture tailored to SharedChain’s ecosystem model. We structured role-based dashboards to support different stakeholders, implemented supply chain workflows including DTC and LPDC processes, and optimized the platform for performance and future growth.

Throughout development, we maintained a tight feedback loop with the client, ensuring that business needs rather than unnecessary complexity, guided each decision. The initial MVP was delivered within a few months, supporting early multi-role onboarding and centralized management from day one.

The impact

SharedChain now provides a structured digital marketplace that improves coordination between supply chain stakeholders. Early usage patterns align with broader digital marketplace success metrics, where platforms traditionally see increased engagement, reduced cycle times, and stronger visibility into workflows within the first six months of launch. Stakeholders now report smoother onboarding, centralized data flows, and measurable operational clarity across roles. These capabilities are central to competitive e-commerce platforms today and reflect key recommendations from top industry analysts.

Looking ahead

SharedChain continues to evolve as a scalable commerce ecosystem. Future plans include expanded feature sets, broader adoption among retailers and wholesalers, and further optimization of supply chain workflows.

The digital foundation is built to adapt, supporting long-term growth without structural rework.

A collaborative marketplace, designed for scale.

“Saguna Consulting understood that this wasn’t just about building an e-commerce site, it was about creating a system that connects businesses in a practical way. Their ability to translate a complex supply chain vision into a working platform made the difference.”
